Abstract
ABSTRACT
At this time, one type of alternative energy that is growing rapidly is solar
energy which is used as electricity generation in the form of solar cells. This technology
can convert sunlight energy into electrical energy. However, currently the use of solar
cells is still static, so the absorption of solar energy is not optimal. To optimize the
absorption of solar energy, a tool is needed to follow the movement of sunlight. Solar
tracker is a tool to keep solar cells following the direction of sunlight. The goal of the
final project " Design and Build a Single Axis Solar Tracker Using a Linear Gear Box
Drive" is to make a solar tracker capable of optimizing the output power of solar cells,
creating a solar tracker with a new propulsion medium, and capable of moving from
east to west with a movement of 15 degrees per hour. Based on several experiments
that have been carried out, the results of the solar tracker test are able to follow the
direction of sunlight from east to west and can return to its initial position
automatically in the morning and the solar cell that uses the tracker is able to absorb
solar energy more optimally than those without a tracker.
